East Windsor Children Raise Over $1,500 for Babies

The Hartford Courant
May 9, 2009

It was the best feel-good moment of the week in East Windsor when 60 children (some in strollers, all 6 and under) from Grammy's Garden Learning Center joined together in support of the smallest members of Connecticut's communities - babies - by participating in WonderWalk to benefit the March of Dimes.

To date the children have raised $1,510 to support the mission to give all babies a healthy start.

"In our profession we work very hard every day to make a difference in the lives of our children," said Sara Anderson, director of Grammy's Garden Learning Center. "It was a touching moment today to see each child in our program carry out our mission of making a difference and help other kids begin healthy lives."

WonderWalk 2009 had a jungly theme and many children on the walk dressed in their favorite animal costumes for the event. All classes made animal masks and the children enjoyed face painting, hand prints with paint, and snacks along the way.

Stranger Danger

Late summer is a great time of year for a lesson on "Stranger Danger". Grammy's Garden works with the East Windsor Police Department to schedule a night for a police officer to come in and talk with the children and parents about the importance of stranger danger and what to do if a stranger ever approaches your child. The class will be open to the public as well as the families of Grammy's Garden. Contact Sara for more details.
