Grammy's Garden believes participating in community activities is an important part of the development of young children. We also believe that supporting the local community is an important part of being small-business owners. To that end, we continually look for new ways both our children and our Center as a whole can contribute to he local community. Some of the ways we have contributed in the past include:
Each Halloween Grammy's children participate in a trick-or-treat campaign to raise money for various community activities. Funds raised in 2005 were donated to the American Red Cross for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Halloween 2007 funds will be donated to the Town of East Windsor Public Library.
Each year the Town of East Windsor holds a Community Day where the local community comes out for food, fun, and interaction with their local business owners. Grammy's Garden has regularly attended the East Windsor Community Day, with our children participating in the annual parade and our staff providing face-painting and arts and crafts for the local community.
In July 2007 Grammy's Garden celebrated Independence Day with a special art show of projects displaying what Independence Day meant to them. The Learning Center was open for family and friends to view these special.
The Town of East Windsor Fire Department regularly comes to Grammy's Garden to inform the children of the importance of proper fire prevention.
Grammy's children brought goody bags to a local convalescent home last fall, and we have plans to go back in the near future. As grandparents this program is especially dear to our heart. We strongly believe that intergenerational awareness is an important part of the development of a child. The smiles on the seniors' faces brought by our visits are priceless!
Grammy's Garden has also contributed to the local community in the following ways:
- East Windsor Parent Teacher Organization - Bounce House donation for 2006 Spring Auction to raise money for field trips, assemblies, classroom supplies, scholarships, family events and more.
- East Windsor Family Resource Center - Donation to annual golf tournament fundraiser.
- City of Hartford - Toy donation for the Health and Human Serivces Maternal Infant Outreach Program.
